Character Counter

Count characters with and without spaces as you type - built for the limits that count characters, not words: tweets, meta descriptions, SMS, ad headlines, and form fields.

What Character Counter cleans up

The counter measures your text against character-based limits - the kind where 'how many words' is irrelevant and one character over means rejected. Both with-spaces and without-spaces figures are shown, because different systems count differently.

Why small text fixes matter

Character limits are everywhere and unforgiving: 280 for X, ~60 before Google truncates your title, 160 per SMS segment, 30 for a Google Ads headline, 2,200 for an Instagram caption. Writing to these limits without a live count means repeated paste-check-trim cycles in the actual form, which is how typos get in at the last second.

How the text is handled

Type or paste, watch the numbers. One nuance worth knowing: emoji and some special characters count as more than one character in many systems (an emoji can be 2+ 'characters' to a platform's counter) - so leave margin when your text includes them.

Where Character Counter helps

  • Writing meta titles (~60 chars) and descriptions (~155)
  • Fitting posts into X's 280 characters
  • Keeping SMS inside one 160-character segment
  • Writing ad headlines against 30/90-character caps
  • Checking form-field inputs before submitting

Text cleanup benefits

  • Live count beats paste-and-pray
  • Both counting conventions shown
  • Emoji-aware counting
  • Works for any language
  • Free with no limits

  • Word, sentence and line counts alongside
  • Handles emoji and special characters correctly

"Write against the live count, use the with-spaces figure, and leave emoji margin. Your text fits on the first paste."
