What GST Calculator calculates
Two directions, one calculator. Forward: base price + GST rate → final price and tax amount. Reverse: GST-inclusive total → base price and the tax hiding inside it. The reverse uses division (total ÷ 1.18 for 18%), not subtraction - the error everyone makes at least once.
Why the numbers matter
The reverse calculation is where money quietly goes wrong: a ₹1,180 inclusive invoice does not contain ₹180 of 18% GST on ₹1,000... actually it does - but computing it as '18% of 1,180 = 212.40' and subtracting is wrong and overstates the tax. For businesses filing returns, quoting clients, or checking vendor invoices, getting the base amount right is the difference between correct and incorrect input-credit claims.
How the result is worked out
Pick add-GST or remove-GST, enter the amount, choose the slab. The result shows base, tax, total, and the equal CGST/SGST halves for intra-state transactions (IGST equals the full rate for inter-state).
